INSERTING SD CARD:
- Unplug the Raspberry Pi from its power supply.
- Locate the SD card socket on the underside of the Pi’s board.
- When looking from above, the SD card’s contacts should be facing up.
- Gently, push the SD card into the socket.
REMOVING SD CARD:
Gently pull the card out. When inserting and removing SD cards in other computers, it is not always necessary to turn off the device. However, as the memory card contains its operating system, the Pi may access it at any time. Removing the card while the Pi is accessing it can corrupt data and, in extreme cases, may stop the card working at all.
Note: The Raspberry Pi 3 or 4 does not have the click in mechanism, just insert firmly until it goes no further, do not force it.
To remove just delicate pull out.
CONTROLLER (WIRED):
Plug in your controller, then turn on your Pi - in most cases It should detect the USB controller and configure it automatically, or prompt you to configure controller upon starter-up. In the case it does neither, plug in a USB keyboard - configure the keyboard upon start-up, then going to the settings to configure your USB controller after plugging it in.
CONTROLLER (WIRELESS):
To configure a wireless controller, you will need either a wired controller or keyboard. From the main UI go into the RetroPie setup menu, then 'RetroPie Setup'. Once there go into 'Configuration / Tools' and select the Bluetooth option. Next turn on your device and make sure it is searching for a connection. Use your wired controller/keyboard to select 'Register and Connect to Bluetooth Device'. A list of MAC address, and possibly the devices name/ will be displayed for every Bluetooth decide able to connect, select yours based on the description. If yours does not show up try again. On the next screen select the 'Display Yes No' option.
If you are using an 8Bitdo controller make sure the '8Bitdo mapping hack' from the main Bluetooth menu is turned off "(OFF - new firmware)". Finally, you need to tell Emulation Station to search for and recognize your new Bluetooth gamepad on system boot. From the main Bluetooth menu, select 'Set up udev rule for Joypad (required for Joypads from 8Bitdo; etc)'. Select your controller from this list.
Once this is done, from the main menu in RetroPie - press START- and go into configure input and configure said wireless controller.
CONNECTING TO WIFI:
Connecting to Wi-Fi: Select the RetroPie menu from the main menu. At the very bottom click WiFi and then you can connect to a network with option "Connect to WiFi network."
KEEPING SD CARD HEALTHY:
To ensure the longevity of your SD card, I recommend closing down and powering off the Raspberry Pie.
Press 'start' on a controller, go down to 'quit' and selecting 'shutdown system'.
After you do that, you can unplug the Raspberry Pi. Doing this will keep the SD card healthy and working longer.
